What better way to cool off in the hot summer sun than to be at the swimming pool. Everyone probably has a pretty good idea about what the essentials are when packing for a day at the pool. Swimsuits, goggles, towels, sunscreen – but what about the snacks? Swimming is fun and it’s also a workout, which means you know the kids are bound to get hungry within a couple of hours.
It is easiest to think about foods that are not perishable therefore do not need a cooler with ice. There is a wide variety of healthy snacks that kids love to eat. Here are some ideas:
- Fresh fruit such as bananas, apples, oranges and grapes
- Multi grain crackers
- Beef jerky (a good protein source)
- Dried fruit such as raisins, craisins, mango, cherries and apricots
- Trail mix
- Granola bars
Make sure you also have plenty of water on hand. It is important to keep kids well hydrated when they are active in the sun. If you happen to be bringing a cooler with ice on your trip to the pool, here are some snacks that you can pack and the kids will enjoy:
- Cheese sticks (there are different flavors widely available)
- Cottage cheese
- carrot and celery sticks
Swimming and playing in the pool and sun can zap the energy right out of your kids so it is good to be prepared. When the kids get hungry, you’re ready with a towel and some healthy, fun, simple poolside snacks.
